WHILE the majority of people are hoping for an Indian summer
it seems Flintshire’s mystery graffiti artist is already getting into
the festive spirit.
The latest offering from the anonymous artist, dubbed the Flintshire Banksy, appears to be a portrait of Father Christmas.
The intricate painting, which carries the artist’s recognisable
tagline RANDOM, is thought to have appeared overnight Monday, on the
doors of the old B&Q store in Queensferry, next to his previous
picture of a miner.
It was spotted by a member of the public as she waited for a bus at the neighbouring bus stop.
The Leader reader, who did not wish to be named, said: “It looks to
me very much like Santa Claus, either that or it’s an old man with a
big white beard.”
The skilled artist has been leaving his mark in various places,
including Wepre Park and on an electricity box near Connah’s Quay Power
Station.
The mystery paintings have sparked lively debate on the Leader
website over whether the images should be classed as vandalism or art.
Reader TDT said of the miner picture: “Not only a striking piece of artwork, but evoking Welsh history and culture.
“Obviously this is a well thought out and beautifully executed piece of graffiti – art for free and there for all to see.
“More graffiti of this calibre would make the world a much more interesting place.
Trouble is, who will be the one to say what graffiti is art and what is vandalism?”
