Twenty-five tagging suspects have been arrested as of March 31 this year, an increase of 18 arrests over the same period in 2009. The suspects are believed to be responsible for about $20,000 in damage to personal and city property.

Simi Valley Police Department’s increased enforcement targeting graffiti vandals has included a probation and parole sweep conducted with the assistance of state parole agents. During the sweep, two repeat offenders were arrested for violating their probation.

Suspects who commit these crimes will face punishments that include a fine, imprisonment, community service and restitution for damaged property.

Many of the suspects have been caught as a result of citizens who notified the police immediately when they saw someone commit the crime.
