Police officers from the Upper Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team
joined forces with their British Transport Police colleagues to arrest
a local man on suspicion of being the ‘Hoax’ graffiti vandal.
In August 2009 Mytholmroyd train station was covered in graffiti bearing the name ‘Hoax.’
Further damage was caused to the Calder Holmes Park in Hebden Bridge with the same ‘tag’ used.
A joint investigation was launched by PC Ryan Stockton of the Upper
Valley NPT and A/Sgt Peter Shaw of the BTP and on Monday they arrested
a 21-year-old Todmorden man on suspicion of criminal damage.
He was also arrested on suspicion of the cultivation and possession of cannabis and possession of a class B drug.
He has since been released on police bail.
A/Sgt Shaw of BTP, said: “This was very much a partnership operation and investigation with West Yorkshire Police.”
“Acts of vandalism will not be tolerated by either force and we will do what we can to bring offenders to justice.”
Inspector Derrick Oldham of the Upper Valley NPT, said: “The graffiti
caused a lot of upset amongst the local community and we teamed up with
the BTP to take action.”
Anyone with additional information about the ‘Hoax’ tag please contact
BTP on 0800 405040 quoting the incident number B5 26/1/10.
