Darryle Louis Caribou is being remembered as a gentle soul who had a
passion for art and passing his skill as an artist and a person to help
other youths. The 26-year-old artist from the Mathias Colomb Cree
Nation (Pukatawagan) drowned on July 3rd after jumping into the Red
River to try and save his 30-year-old cousin, who had entered the river
to cool off and encountered difficulty with the strong currents
following heavy rains. Darryle Caribou's body was found four days later.
Caribou
was an instructor at Graffiti Art Programming at a youth art centre on
Higgins Avenue where he also sold his work. He has been described as a
role model and a mentor.
A memorial for Darryle Caribou will be
held at the Graffiti Art Programming centre at 109 Higgins Avenue on
July 15th from 6 P.M. To 9 P.M. Everybody is welcome.
