CRANSTON, R.I. -- An abandoned backpack, a strong odor of spray-paint vapor and a rustling in the woods led police to a suspect hiding in bushes with white spray paint on his hands.

Nara was arrested in New York City in February for scrawling a smiley face with a marker on a subway station wall. He was charged with making graffiti and criminal mischief and even spent a night in jail.

The charges against Nara were dropped Thursday.

The incident occurred just before an exhibit of Nara's work opened at a gallery in the city's Chelsea neighborhood.

CHICO — Police arrested a 15-year-old boy Saturday on suspicion of resisting arrest and prowling, but believe he may be among a group responsible for extensive graffiti vandalism.
