SHELBY — Four men face a total of 52 charges in connection to a rash
of graffiti turning up on some of the city’s most prominent locales.
W****** D***** H******, 18, of West Marion Street, E******* C*****
F****, 21, of Blanton Street, A****** M****** B****, 20, of Grover
Street, and J***** F****** L*****, 21, of Leander Street, were arrested
Thursday, each charged with 14 counts of injury to real property.The suspects were each given a $2,000 secured bond.
Shelby Police Lt. Lisa Green commended the investigative work of the agency’s problem-solving unit.
“Shift confirmed them and (they) located paint cans in their
backpacks. Very observant,” she said of the police work. “They did an
awesome job.”
Evidence tainted at least six sites around Shelby, including the
historic courthouse and Cleveland Memorial Library. Two reports
established a possible connection, with the initials “BKW” alongside
“2713.”
All the incidents were reported Monday morning.It’s the first time the library has been hit with graffiti, said Director Carol Wilson.
“I just hope it’s not the beginning of a trend,” she said. “We’ve never had it here before.”County maintenance had the vandalism removed just a day later.“We’re OK now,” Wilson said. “I just hope they got it out of their system on one go-round.”
