A Richmond graffiti artist will spend
time behind bars after vandalizing several local neighborhoods.
M****** A******* was sentenced last week after admitting to defacing
properties in the Fan District and Oregon Hill. Atkinson, who often
spray paints his "who" tag, will spend 10 weekend days behind bars,
allowing him to work during the week before turning himself in on
Saturdays and Sundays.
Police said A******* generally tags private property, and is known to
have spray-painted restaurant Davis and Main. Authorities said the
suspect also belongs to a group of graffiti vandals called "FHF." That
group is accused of painting the word "stupid" throughout the city.
"It's difficult to catch vandals in progress," said Richmond Police
officer Hawkins Kuper. "We try to get as much of the damage documented
as we can to build cases against these vandals."
In addition to his jail time, A******* will pay nearly $4,000 in
fines, and will serve 1,000 hours of community service, including
cleaning up graffiti.
